NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Altering behavior is complicated, and staff can either help the change process by becoming change agents in partnership with the service recipient or hinder the process by unwittingly pushing too hard.   This training is a supplementary training for practitioners who have already mastered the Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills offered in the introductory MI training, such as OARS, expressing empathy, rolling with resistance, and avoiding common road blocks to change.  In this training, participants learn how to use “change talk” to elicit client motivation.  In addition, the training introduces common MI techniques such as DARN statements, reframing, agreement with a twist, and amplified and double-sided reflections.  The goal of the training is to help practitioners promote persons’ commitment to change by advancing their use of MI techniques and avoiding traps that interfere with motivation.  Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of their role in the change process when working with others. Note:  This training is a Webinar, which has 1 session, you must complete the full session in order to receive your certificate.  This half day training is targeted to human service providers working to access mental health housing for individuals living with mental illness and in need of additional supports.This training provides a history of mental health & housing; an overview of OMH mental health housing models, eligibility, and access; as well as recovery-oriented resources and services.The training is interactive and offers skills & strategies for assessing individual support needs, engagement, and preparing applicants for successful housing interviews. All attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the NYC OMH mental health housing spectrum as well as how to navigate the HRA 2010e application and referral process. Read more

NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Providing effective, clinically sound services for persons with trauma histories can be complicated.    Well intentioned, but unskilled staff can inadvertently set persons with trauma histories into crisis by over-processing or not understanding how to help persons contain their thoughts when talking about trauma.  An understanding of support strategies that offer safety and grounding to persons with trauma histories are covered in this full day training.  Aside from the effects of trauma on individuals, trainees will gain a better understanding of the healing process including providing safety, mindfulness and grounding techniques.  In addition, the workshop explores self care as an essential component for staff working with trauma histories.  Through case studies and role plays, attendees will be able to practice these skills and leave feeling more competent in their understanding of trauma and its aftermath. It relies on a collaborative, non-coercive approach that is respectful and responsive to a person’s preferences and needs, ensuring that the person’s values guide all decisions. This training offers information on how to shift from a system-centered approach to a person-centered approach, and shares tips to engage and assess an individual’s person-centered goals. Documentation serves as the blueprint and footprint for the Person-Centered Planning process. The training also offers practical guidance on how to support this process through service planning documentation, as well as other relevant charting issues. Attendees will leave the training better equipped to discover the personal goals of the individuals to whom they provide services, and to incorporate those goals into ongoing documentation.   Read more
