CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Person-Centered Planning is a process designed to assist individuals in making plans for their future based upon what is uniquely important to them. It relies on a collaborative, non-coercive approach that is respectful and responsive to a person’s preferences and needs, ensuring that the person’s values guide all decisions. This training offers information on how to shift from a system-centered approach to a person-centered approach, and shares tips to engage and assess an individual’s person-centered goals. Documentation serves as the blueprint and footprint for the Person-Centered Planning process. The training also offers practical guidance on how to support this process through service planning documentation, as well as other relevant charting issues. Attendees will leave the training better equipped to discover the personal goals of the individuals to whom they provide services, and to incorporate those goals into ongoing documentation. Read more

This often translates to high turnover rates and programs having to invest in resources to train new staff. This training acknowledges the level of stress in this field and uses the same strengths staff use in their daily work to engage in a series of dialogues about personal self-care and organizational issues that often go unaddressed. The training also explores common sources of stress and provides strategies for managing and lowering stress levels. Discussions focus on acknowledging and addressing issues of burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. A special emphasis is placed on self-care for staff. Attendees will be offered information to support a renewed sense of purpose and will be better equipped to manage their stress. Read more

CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Supervisors play a critical role in helping staff to successfully integrate Motivational Interviewing (MI) into their day-to-day practice. This training provides supervisors with a forum to discuss and remove barriers to embedding MI into ongoing clinical practice. It also provides concrete strategies that supervisors can use to evaluate and strengthen the more advanced skills taught in Motivational Interviewing. It provides tools and exercises that supervisors can use to evaluate staff member’s MI skills, practice skills together with staff, and embed MI practice into client interactions. By identifying multiple opportunities and methods for helping staff to build MI skills and avoiding common roadblocks, supervisors learn practical ways to reinforce this evidence-based practice. The training is designed to help staff strengthen “change talk” and commitment to change, and to incorporate more direct methods for eliciting motivation to change after establishing a solid alliance. Yet staff who are new to the field often have little to no hands-on experience in basic engagement and counseling skills, and studies show that effectively-trained staff provide more consistent and higher-quality services in helping professions. This training offers practical information about mental health counseling and the role of the case manager in facilitating individuals’ achievement of greater independence and movement towards wellness. Participants are introduced to a variety of fundamental clinical skills and strategies. The training emphasizes strengths-based engagement and assessment, active listening skills, focused referrals, and effective transition of services as individuals make progress on the path toward recovery. Repeated studies illustrate that the LGBTQ community is both oppressed and underserved. This full-day training focuses on cross-cultural knowledge, skills and advocacy as a means to create a healthy alliance with LGBTQ individuals and communities. The presentation explores the impact of hetero-normative thinking on the lives of persons who identify as LGBTQ+. Attendees will explore best practice skills and strategies in working with individuals and how to support the “coming out” process for persons who choose to. Recommendations to create an affirmative environment are shared along with other programmatic considerations. Lastly, the training will offer tips for advocacy and empowerment to LGBTQ persons. Attendees will leave the training with a set of skills and strategies to support their everyday work with LGBTQ individuals. Case studies are used to practice the skills offered in this training.
